Nice, cheap alternative to big brands
By Brett92
I've only had this rack for a day, but my initial impressions are that it's great.
--- Pros ---
Cheap - easily half the price of a major brand.
Fast Shipping - Ordered on a Monday, & Received on a Thursday.
No missing parts - I read that some people had missing parts, but everything was there as far as I could tell.
Fits tight - It's very snug on my 58'' Thule cross bars. Drove up to 70 mph; little noise and no stability issues.
There are 2 different sized bolts included. Some reviewers had issues with the bolts being too long and touching their roof (or being close to touching). Looks like the seller updated the package to include shorter bolts in response to the negative reviews. I don't see how the shorter bolts could touch your roof, at least not on an aftermarket Thule or Yakima rack.
--- Cons ---
Included cam buckle straps seemed to be of good quality (cam buckle itself is made out of thick metal and is heavy), but I had trouble using it. I already had some cam buckle straps laying around so I just used those instead. More of a preference really.
One of the plastic screw nuts was hard to screw on. Found that there was some plastic leftover from the molding process that was covering part of the screw threads of the nut. Had to pick it off with some needle-nose pliers. Screwed on fine after that.
Instructions weren't bad, but could've been more detailed. I had no issues putting it together. The close up pictures in the item description helped to show where the washers, plates, etc. were.

This product shipped on time. Great price about half of what the big name brands charge. This item is easy to assemble and install.

Great... After A Few Small Improvements
By Rusty Spoons
Got this rack a few days ago. It took me a single use to figure out its few downfalls, and fix them.
The base metal form and attachment hardware is great. Sturdy, strong, and seems like it will last for the long-term.
The weak points of the rack are as follows...
1 - The foam padding that is on the bars to protect your kayak from scuffing WILL tear and fall off. I lost one just taking the kayak on and off in my driveway.
To remedy this I went out and bought clear rubber tubing at the hardware store (you will need 1 inch I.D., and about 8 feet of it).
Simply pull off the cheap-o padding and slide the tubing over the bar. It cost me $9, took about ten minutes, and totally fixed the issue.
In fact (in my opinion) they actually look way cooler with the industrial tubing on them than they did with the crappy padding that comes on them.
2 - (This is a minor point) The rubber padding that they include to protect your roof-rack from being scuffed by the J-rack was not enough for me.
Again, simple and cheap fix from the hardware store. Just pick up some extra adhesive-backed padding and you'll be fine.
All-in-all this is a great rack. The short-comings are easily fixed, and even after said improvements are made, the price remains far below many other brands.
My girlfriend plans on getting a kayak now, and I plan to purchase another set of these as soon as she does.
