Very happy with purchase
By Reid Colson
I bought this rack after quite a bit of research and have used it several times, including two 9 hour trips with four bikes on the rack. My experience is mostly positive, with just a few issues.
Positives:
- rack is quite solidly built, very stable and quiet throughout the ride
- the sway feature to move out of the way of the lift gate works well
- I had no problem fitting on 4 adult bikes and it didn't require a lot of manuevering to get them all on
Cons:
- the screw used to secure the rack to the hitch is finicky and takes some patience to align properly
- the rubber saddles seem to wear easily, but even with wear are still supportive
- the arms may not fit inside a women's bike frame, I put one arm in the frame by the handlebars and one in the frame behind the seat to make the fit work
All-in-all, I'd buy this rack all over again. Having lots of fun getting out on the trails.

Works as designed!
By Thomas Holland
This worked great on our 700 mile trip this summer. I am impressed with the quality build of the rack. We have a 2004 Ford Expedition and didn't have any problems. Two adult and two childrens bike fit on there good. With all that weight, it was pretty heavy to push back into the upright position, so take that into consideration if you are a light weight. I do suggest doing a trial run/fit before a trip which i did and it saved us about 30-45 minutes the morning of the trip. I even took pictures of the bike placement so that i could recreate the bike positions (i know, i'm kinda weird). If you don't want your bike to rub on one another use buffers (old innertube cut up) to place between where the bike touch. You may also need bungy cords or rope to keep everything tight so everthing is not swinging and to keep the wheels from spinning. FWIW, most of what i'm suggesting applies to most bike racks.

Great for Road Bike not for MTB
By Morgan Masner
This rack is very sturdy and functional and works great for the road bikes. The large cradles really do damage to a mountain bike as it wedges itself into the frame and will really rub the paint. It's a bummer since it's a really nice design at a good price. Softride really needs to change their cradles. Also, the straps are crap, they break all the time, I'm constantly buying replacements.
